URBAN RAINWATER SYSTEM

Many parts of the world have a water shortage or have a stormwater run off problem. Gathering water from roofs is a way to meet water needs and to reduce run off. The key to the systems success is to have actively used storage. Sigra has designed a system for this purpose.

This system involves coarse filtration of roof water. The first roof run off is collected separately and then discharged. The purpose of this is to dispose of roof deposits. Water is then collected in a storage tank which contains a water level monitor and is covered by a screen to prevent mosquito breeding.

The system contains a servo valve and pump controlled by a microprocessor. When there is adequate water in the tank and there is electricity, the buildings water supply is met having the valve set to tank. The pump turns on as water is drawn. When the tank runs out the valve switches to mains water supply and the building's needs are met from this source. In the event that there is water in the tank but the mains electricity fails and the pump no longer works, the valve is automatically switched to mains water supply. It returns automatically to the tank position on restoration of mains electricity.

This system is installed at a number of trial sites and will be marketed by Urban Rainwater Systems Pty Ltd. Initial enquiries should be made to Sigra Pty Ltd through this web site. A drawing of the system is shown in D23.
