Operation overview

The Sigra vented pressure transducer utilises a strain-gauged diaphragm type transducer within a robust 316 stainless steel housing. Deflection of the diaphragm is read as a change in strain.

The strain is converted to frequency which travels up the connecting cable to a data logger or other read-out device. Each pressure transducer is individually calibrated and when these equations are entered into the Sigra data logger a readout can be produced in either head of fluid or pressure in kPa. Downhole temperature can be recorded and displayed as well as being used to temperature-correct the pressure readings.

Advantages

Atmospheric Venting:

Transducers that are extremely sensitive (7, 35 and 70 kPa) are affected by changes in atmospheric pressure. To combat this, atmospheric pressure is applied to both sides of the transducer’s sensing diaphragm so the atmospheric effects are cancelled out.

Dessication:

The vent line from the transducer terminates in a dessicator which is used to keep the vent line dry. The dessicant granules change colour when they require replacing and are easily inspected without any disassembly.

Construction:

The external surface of the transducer is either 316 stainless steel or nylon which allows the transducer to be used near water quality test instruments without interference.
